Visiting Grandma in Carnegie...A Branch in the Adventure!

Since the last post, things have stalled.  AGAIN.  BIG TIME.  With the return to work, the hectic schedule I seemed to have forgotten about returned as did a lack of sleep and time.

However, determination pulled through and the 2nd of dinner nights was organised.  This time, we went a little different - Korean.  Now, I must say I was very impressed with the turnout for this as it is not commonly a food we know much about.

Common questions include:

1. Is it like Japanese?  (Yes, but no.)
2. Is it like Chinese? (Hell no.)
3. What the hell IS kimchi???

The mysterious kimchi (김치 in Korean hangul writing)

Aiming to answer all of these questions, I booked a table for 14 brave sould at Kimchi Grandma in Carnegie (a well known yet somewhat hidden place that many walked straight past!) knowing it had a wide variety and wouldn't scare too many off future dinner clubs!

Upon arriving, it was nice to see we had once again been separated from the mainstreamers (possibly they could sense the noise abaout to come forth from the booking of 14) and we were settled upstairs.  Let the good times roll!!!

Well done to everyone for ordering something weird and trying it and it was good to see minimal guests suffering the dreaded 'kimchi face', a dreaded affliction when one tries one of the mysterious side dishes randomly allocated with horrific side effects...

A big shout out to Brad and Tig, the faithful RSC representatives, Shell and V-Den for keeping CHS attendance shining and Courtz the faithful Indo buddy from uni with a late entry!  In our words... "Makan malam itu enak sekali!!!"

On a less productive note, other goals are majorly stalled...  With the Mother's Day Classic looming, Tony Ferguson will be making a reappearance to help shed some kilos (helping the second "magic number goal" whilst better preparing to run in May!).  Don't worry Kateo, Tony won't be too harsh on me this time!!!  Just expect a grumpy Eloise for a couple of weeks as the caffeine and sugar drain from my body!!!

Tony and a fellow fatty - see, why wouldn't you trust that man?
He has a lab coat so MUST be a real doctor!!!

Furthermore, updates re: singing have been damaged with a loss of voice and a few trips to the doc.  I am going to keep blaming the new year and the craziness of teaching year 9 but will keep updating!!!

Once again, a MASSIVE thanks to all who attended - I had a great night and I hope you did!!!

The Kimchi Grandma Crew

Can't wait to see the adventures March dinner club has in store!!!  Indian?  Arabic?  Cooking at your mum's house?  WHO KNOWS!!!

Let's hope the next month brings strong progress on more goals than this one!!!
